Episode Information

Britain’s Broken Families follows the 24/7 job of Newcastle’s Family Intervention Project. Their job is to help improve the lives of the area’s most challenging and disruptive families.

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has vowed to turn around the lives of 120,000 troubled families by 2015. This documentary has unique access to the inspirational FIP workers who have been assigned the incredibly difficult task of implementing Cameron’s promise. Every day, FIP work intensively with the most disadvantaged, challenging and disruptive families in the UK who other authorities (including social workers, police, education, and housing) have tried, and failed, to help.

Claire Stewart is trying to help Sharon, whose 14 year old daughter is refusing to go to school. Gangs of youths frequent her house and have been terrorising the estate. While Vicki McKeown has been brought in to help a mother whose two boys are being neglected and risk being taken into care.

If the families don’t change they will lose their homes or children…
