Off The Fence Cements Its Presence In Canada
Toronto/Amsterdam/London/ Bristol
Following the recent opening of its first Canadian office in Toronto last August, award-winning production and distribution company Off the Fence is cementing its Canadian presence with deals with production companies Markham Street Films and Shark Teeth Films.
Off the Fence is working with Markham Street Films to raise financing and distribute their development slate including Luck Decoded - a series which uncovers the true nature of luck and the different ways humans try to make sense of our world, and an Untitled a true crime limited series about how one man shockingly impregnated dozens of women with the wrong sperm, among others including, My Beautiful Body, The Real Cost of Delivery, Snack Attack and The Secret History of the Internet.
OTF Studios are also executive producing, co-financing and distributing The Secrets of Big Data, alongside Super Channel in Canada from Toronto-based production company Shark Teeth Films. The Secrets of Big Data is a series about the dangers and benefits of artificial intelligence and big data. In each episode, experts contribute their hypotheses in interviews as the narrator unfolds the mystery, telling the story through visually evocative CGI and archive to dive deep into the subjects. The series feeds into Off the Fence’s Tomorrow content pillar which focuses on Science, Technology and the Future.
Loren Baxter, Head of Acquisitions at Off the Fence said: “Canadian producers have always proved to be great partners for Off the Fence. Not only is Canadian content well received internationally, the budgets and tax credits enable high quality shows to be produced and green-lit a lot faster, and with the high demand for content, as a distributor we need to find ways to reach that demand quickly. Working with partners such as Markham Street Films and Shark Teeth Films, both of whom have great track records when it comes to selling their shows domestically and internationally, is something we’re extremely excited about and we hope our clients will be too.’’
Off the Fence also launching Forgotten Frontlines (6 x 60’) from Canadian production company Go Button Media, Curb Your Carbon (1 x 60’) and The Global Vaccine Race (1 x 60’) from Infield Fly Productions Inc, and Coral Ghosts (1 x 90’) from Take Action Films.
Steering the Canadian strategy, Off the Fence’s Director of Commercial & Business Affairs Imelda Wiebers said: “It is great to see the positive response from our Canadian partners after opening our office in Canada just a few months ago. We are looking forward to continuing to build strong relationships with our local partners and investing in premium programmes across our core content pillars of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, specifically across science and ancient history.”
