British composer Nick Glennie-Smith is keen to build up an orchestra from wildlife sound. He visits scientists who are studying the motives behind animal sounds and gradually comes to understand his unusual instrumentalists and vocalists. Starting with the strings and moving through the various orchestral sections, he composes a piece using everything from sonorous alligator bellows to heart rending lemur cries.
