Sophisticated and bizarre, the bowerbirds of Australia and Papua New Guinea symbolise sexuality in a very human way. The male birds are supreme artists, and build bowers - elaborate structures decorated with carefully selected "treasures" in which to "seduce" as many females as possible. The birds are a promiscuous species in which no pair bonds are formed and males live a lifestyle based on sex and greed.
