We’ll follow two Aussie legends of big-wave surfing - Ross Clarke-Jones and Tom Carroll - as they risk life and limb to hunt the biggest waves of the Australian 2008 winter season.
Ross and Tom team with leading surf-forecaster and meteorologist Ben Matson to track and chase the largest storms in the Southern Ocean. They have their eye on surfing a never-before ridden wave in the treacherous seas of Bass Strait called Dangerous Banks: it’s the ‘climbing-Everest’ of big wave surfing.
In a nail-biting adventure that takes the viewer from Tasmania to Western Australia, we go behind the scenes of big wave surfing, witness Ross and Tom come close to death in near-freezing waters and in a world-first, employ cutting-edge GPS technology to measure the forces on their bodies in a wipe-out from a wave the size of a house.
In the end they finally get their chance to surf Dangerous Banks – a remote open-ocean break 35 kilometres out to sea – and uncover its mystery on camera, to see just how big it really is!
