Hidden deep within an African floodplain lays the remote island of Jao. It’s inhabited by some elusive and rarely seen creatures. From the playful joker to the strong silent type, these characters offer a rare glimpse into a mysterious world where each day brings new challenges.
We join the first of our resident families, the Banded Brothers. Their search for breakfast ends in tragedy as the troop is savagely attacked by Makeda, the leopard of Jao. Without a leader and their home no longer safe, the Banded Brothers begin an epic adventure in the search for a new home.
On the other side of the island we find our carefree bachelor of the story, Kobe, the Cape Clawless Otter. Slow and aloof the otter stumbles towards the river where a darker, hidden personality is revealed as an incredible transformation takes place.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, the Banded Brothers are without their beloved leader and still without a home. Awaking in an unknown area of the island Maia continues to lead the troop on their adventure. With very little food available they are forced to venture to an area known as Predator Plains. Here they are bound to find found, but at what cost?
Amara, the single femme fatale awakes on her side of the island and heads of on the daily rounds of her territory. But today, boundaries are going to be crossed. Absorbed in a game of cat and mouse, Amara strolls beyond her comfort zone and into the realm of the Wild Woods.
The Delta Pride invades the island of Jao on the search for food. The Banded Brothers are caught in the crossfire and Ringo is separated from the troop. The young heir wanders further from his family, heading straight towards a leopard.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, the Wild Woods cast a dark and sinister shadow over the land.
Here in the Wild Woods, the large spotted genet, known as Sefu lives a solitary life. Always the nosy neighbour, Sefu spies on all the secrets and stories that unfold in the Woods. Out of the protection of the trees, Sefu heads down to the waters edge to wash down his meal, unaware of Mansa, the resident crocodile lying in wait.
Meanwhile, the homeless troop of mongoose, the Banded Brothers have arrived at the Northern border of the Wild Woods. Their new leader, Maia has a difficult decision to make. The sun is fading and they must find shelter soon. This island will change - once darkness falls.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, Kobe heads off on his morning swim, but today is going to be a little different. Kima is also on the hunt for breakfast. Has the time come for these two lonely hearts to merge?
At the fringes of the Wild Woods, Maia and the Banded Brothers, awaken in rather unfamiliar surroundings. Unconcerned with cleaning their new home, Ringo seizes the chance to sneak out, dragging his reluctant cousin, Adanna along for the ride. Excitedly, Ringo and Adanna wander deeper into the unknown, naive to the dangers that lurk in the Wild Woods.
Meanwhile in the North West of the island, there is an intruder pillaging the spoils of private land. The undetected male, Tau continues to make himself at home. But the time has come for this presumptuous freeloader to be exposed.
As evening takes its grip, the Quills introduce their new son to world outside their burrow. But as Dube heads to the waters edge for a quick drink, Mansa slips below the surface, poised for attack.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, Maia leads the Banded Brothers to a clearing in the Wild Woods where an enormous banquet awaits. After teaching her son, Ringo a lesson in French cuisine, the troop suffer an aerial attack.
Sefu leaves his treetop home in the search for food but gets more than he bargained for when he’s ambushed by the female stalker once again.
Kobe and Kima emerge after their romantic night together and with their hearts now filled, concentrate on satisfying their empty stomachs. As they disappear down river an old nemesis has tracked down Kima’s new home. Skaal, the enormous python of Jao is back.
The feline princess of Jao graces the island with her presence, only to reveal an ugly secret.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, the servals feud is about to be settled once and for all, while on the Southern Borders the lions of the Delta Pride return to the island of Jao once again and have a blood lust to fulfil.
As night falls on the island, the Quills awaken to a broken home. Dube has still not returned and Mbali and his young son are beginning to loose hope.
Leaving the resident otter to sleep, Kima sneaks out to the waterways and heads back to her old riverside home, unaware the “Okavango Strangler” awaits her return.
And a nomadic cousin of the mongoose family arrives on Jao in the hope of finding a new home.
This time in the Secret Creatures of Jao, with their safety jeopardised by the recent arrival of Skaal, the resident python and the dry season soon approaching the two resident otters, Kobe and Kima make a difficult decision, they must leave the shores of Jao.
Dube finally makes it home but on his return, Mbali and his son are no-where to be seen. Have they already left?
Sefu tracks down and discovers the true identity of his mystery female, but will he unravel her deceitful plan in time.
The young heir Ringo and his cousin Adanna sneak out once again on another adventure into the Wild Woods. Lost and alone, the two misfits are confronted with the most venomous killer in Africa, which leads to tragic consequences.
