One of the main features of this adventure mystery is to prove once and for all that this Tribe actually exists at all. This is a crucial question, because the Government of a bordering country, and others, have denied their existence at all. They insist that the picture is a fake. Why would they do that? The answer could be that if a people don’t exist, they can easily be annihilated. This film asks who might benefit from a denial of their existence - and to find the truth behind these extraordinary pictures. Richard Wawman has made over thirty films about remote and isolated tribes around the world. Together with director Ben Young, and small team of about 20 people, he sets out to go to one of the remotest areas in Brazil, close to the border with Peru – the Envira River. This film takes the audience on an extraordinary journey deep into the heart of one of the world's most remote and least understood regions, to discover the disturbing reality of the indigenous peoples who live there. Through encounters with some of these tribes, and those who have dedicated their lives to protecting them, we uncover stories of 'cultural cleansing', of an enormous trade in illegal logging and drugs - and of the devastation of a forest and its inhabitants.
This film will uncover the truth behind a few pictures that ignited the world's press - when we find out exactly who are The Tribe in the Picture.
