DISCOVERY CHANNEL AND OFF THE FENCE BRAVE THE ARCTIC
Off The Fence (OTF) has been commissioned by Discovery Networks Western Europe to produce Wildest Arctic (4x60’) which explores one of the most extreme environments on earth, from the Taiga forests and Tundra plains to the Arctic Circle and Iceland. The series is the latest installment of the Wildest franchise, following the recently commissioned Wildest India and the sale of Wildest Africa to territories worldwide.
Wildest Arctic begins its exhilarating journey in the frozen forests of the Taiga. Spanning the globe, these forests shelter some of the world’s most mysterious animals, which specialise in dealing with the ice and cold. The series intrepidly tracks the epic 2,000 mile migration of 500,000 caribou from the Taiga to the vast, treeless plains of the Tundra.
The next destination features one of the world’s last great wildernesses, the Arctic Circle. This is the land of the midnight sun, where in the summer the sun never sets and the Arctic thaws out in an explosion of life. Whales feed in the water and millions of birds flock to breed on Greenland’s cliffs, but polar bears must return to land and endure a season of starvation in order to survive. Wildest Arctic’s final stop is Iceland. Forged in fire, this is a country of rugged landscapes and fantastic creatures, from the hardy Arctic fox to the charismatic Atlantic puffin.
Wildest Arctic will premiere across Discovery Channel across Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. The series will air on High–Fidelity in Canada.
Dan Korn, SVP & Head of Programming, Discovery Networks Western Europe, said: “Wildest Arctic takes viewers on a daring adventure without ever having to leave their living rooms. With such breathtaking content, Discovery aims to showcase the unobserved and majestic Arctic wildlife.”
Allison Bean, Managing Director, OTF Productions said: “Wildest Arctic shows off the Arctic in all its glory; it’s one of the harshest environments in the world, yet it contains the most incredible landscapes and diverse wildlife. The series is a fantastic example of the high-quality programming OTF prides itself on producing and we hope it will prove popular with viewers around the world.”
Wildest Arctic was produced by Allison Bean and executive produced by Ellen Windemuth for Off the Fence and Victoria Noble for Discovery Networks Western Europe.
