Cruise Ship Down: Saving Concordia
Cruise Ship Down: Saving Concordia 1 x 60'
It was a night to remember. When Costa Concordia ran into rocks off the Tuscan coast, it was the largest passenger shipwreck in history. After two years as a macabre tourist attraction, now a team led by maverick salvage master Nick Sloane race against time to overcome the most extreme engineering challenges in maritime history, and refloat the sunken palace.

The monstrous cruise ship – twice as heavy as Titanic – is now impaled on two giant outcrops of undersea granite with a 160-foot gash in its hull. The scale of the salvage operation and the potential for further disaster seemed insurmountable. But for Sloane and his team of more than 500 professionals, it’s an opportunity for a revolutionary engineering operation.

This film captures the urgent and perilous removal of the wreck. Combining an in-depth look at the science and engineering involved in the operation, with the human drama both of the survivors and the salvage crew – who are racing against the onset of winter – it’s a tense and dramatic story.
