Using interviews with Madison Avenue ad executives, museum curators and the creators of the popular TV series Mad Men, this series traces the creation of American consumer culture from the end of WWII to the end of the twentieth century. “The Real Story of Mad Men" features classic ads that span four decades and it explores the objects from the original Mad Men set that are now a part of Smithsonian Institution’s collection. This series will reveal the impact of advertising on American culture by tapping into the National Museum of American History’s collections and scholarship. It includes interviews with Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, and ad icons like Ron Popeil, Shelley Hack and Brooke Shields.
