Episode Information

This is the story of a thirty-year quest to discover the fundamental rules of nature. How are species organized into ecosystems? How do those ecosystems and the species within them change over time? Scientists think there must be a set of unwritten rules that bring order to a complex, chaotic world. And our clearest look into nature’s rulebook comes from an unassuming creature: a six-inch lizard called an anole. Travelling through the American tropics led by Jonathan Losos and scientist-filmmakers Neil Losin and Nate Dappen they encounter remarkable lizards and capture species and behaviors that have never been filmed before. Meeting some of the world’s top biologists to witness how anoles are helping us decipher the basic rules of nature, and discover why these fascinating lizards might hold the key to understanding the past, present, and future of life on Earth.
