The location of the region of Apartadó is very favourable from an economic point of view, situated at the point where North, Central and South America merge into one another. Since the ‘60s, this region has been a colonisation area where people from all over Colombia come looking for work and fleeing from violence.
Finally, however, the conflict caught up with them. Guerrilla groups appeared in the region of Apartadó, and conflict spread throughout the whole region. 1,200 people died in land struggles and political violence. Then Gloria Cuartas stepped in. Her main goal was to prevent further deaths. Whether guerrillas or private vendetta groups parading under the name of the paramilitary, her mission was to subdue them. After years of struggle her hard work paid off as fewer killings took place. Today the citizens of Apartadó are talking to each other again.
This film is about Gloria's struggle to get the attention of the international community to the terrible conflict playing out on the streets. It is an extraordinary film about an extraordinary woman.
