Episode Information
We join marine biologist Antonella Servido as she investigates the mystery of the Canary Island pilot whales in this stunning documentary film, Sounds of the Seas. Why is it that an increasing number of these beautiful animals are becoming fatally stranded? Antonella wants answers and will not stop until she finds them. Every month new military sonars are deployed. They are built to detect hostile submarines over hundreds of miles, but that needs hugely destructive sound volumes. Could it be this which is interfering with the whales’ fine-tuned hearing, and causing them to beach? As the threat of energy-wars increase, and the need for sonar increases, scientists are standing up to tackle the inevitable consequences for the oceans.
