Lola, Southern Sea lion pup, is born into a battlefield. Her mother gives birth on Peninsula Valdes in Argentina, where males fight to defend their territory and steal more females to mate with, while vulnerable pups are being born and taking their first faltering steps. She survives several battles and makes it to the colony creche - where she learns how to swim, how to defend herself and how to keep cool on a hot beach. Those skills show their worth when resident killer whales arrive. They hunt sea lions by launching themselves onto the beach - but Lola survives the attack.
