Journalist Alex Hannaford heads to the US to investigate a Bird Apocalypse. On New Year’s Eve 2010, the bodies of thousands of blackbirds rained down from the sky onto the Arkansas town of Beebe. Believing that the birds were probably culled, Alex is surprised to learn that the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The birds had flown headlong into objects with such force that it killed them. But what drove them to do this? Did they commit suicide? Or was the cause of the carnage environmental change, fireworks or freak weather? Alex comes up with an intriguing scientific explanation.
