Investigative journalist Alex Hannaford heads to Hamburg to uncover the truth behind bizarre headlines of exploding toads. In spring 2005 hundreds of these creatures, swollen to twice their normal size, were reported to have crawled out of a pond in the city’s biggest park and exploded! Alarmed eyewitnesses alerted the authorities who immediately cordoned-off the so called ‘pond of death’ and surrounding area. Determined to discover the cause of this amphibian apocalypse, Alex interviews eyewitnesses and experts in an attempt to find a scientific explanation for this horrific phenomenon.
