synopsis

Follow a year in the life of a young blind macaque monkey and its family. Few monkeys born blind survive infancy. Even born healthy, up to 40% of babies won't make it through their first year. That this blind macaque has survived to 15 months defies all expectations. Rhesus monkey's have a complex social order, the blind monkey's mother was once a "queen" and the birth of a blind son has turned her world upside down. The burden of caring for a disabled child means she is now loosing her status within the group. This film tells a story of a devoted mother, her blind son and adolescent daughter as they struggle against all odds to survive. This is truely a unique story and ironically strikingly human.
