synopsis
In June 2011, first-time racehorse owner David Keoghan enjoyed a dream debut when Lolly for Dolly won the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot. Hooked on the sport, David used nearly 500,000 of the prize and sale money totaling close to 900,000 to buy and train six young horses, aiming to challenge racing giants like the Aga Khan, Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, and Aidan OBriens Coolmore Stud. Alongside his wife, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern, and trainer Fozzy Stack with jockey Wayne Lordan, David spent three intense years chasing success with Clancy Avenue, Overland Express, Your Pal Tal, Mister Aviation, and Addicted to Progress. The Long Shot documentary captures this honest journey across top racecourses in Ireland and the UK, revealing the emotional rollercoaster of flat racing. As a former professional athlete, Davids deep bond with the horses offers viewers a rare, personal insight into the demanding world of racing. Filmed in 2014 and 2015.
