synopsis

This film explores how animals and plants can help solve crimes. Nigel meets the worlds leading forensic scientists and discovers how nature has been used to convict notorious criminals. Flies and maggots reveal how long a body has lain undiscovered, while microscopic pollen can link a suspect to a crime scene. Sniffer dogs track fugitives and detect traces of petrol used in arson attacks, and even terrorism investigations rely on insect evidence. Nigel also visits the University of Tennessees body farm, where animal behaviour around human corpses is studied. Alongside this, we follow a fictional murder committed by Nigel himselfan apparently perfect crime undone by forensic evidence from the natural world.
