synopsis

'Out of Mined' journeys along South Africa’s West Coast, a vital biodiversity hotspot facing devastating pressure from diamond and heavy mineral mining on land and at sea. Through the voices of local communities, scientists, environmentalists and Indigenous people, this film exposes the scars left by mining and reveals what is at stake for this fragile ecosystem. It also explores sustainable alternatives that could transform the coastline’s future. More than a story of destruction, 'Out of Mined' is a powerful story of resilience and hope, asking us to reconsider our dependence on extraction and the true cost of the choices we make.
