South African wildlife expert Gareth Patterson is on a quest to track down the ‘ghosts of the Knysna forest’. Contrary to popular belief, Gareth is convinced that more than one elephant remains from the once great herds of Knysna. He believes that they roam concealed amongst the dense foliage of Knysna’s beautiful and ancient forests that stretch down to the South African coast. The story follows his journey to track down the elusive elephants through any means possible – from DNA testing of the elephants’ dung, to heat-seeking cameras and good old fashioned tracking. The dedicated work of Gareth and two highly skilled trackers reveals surprising truths about the elephants that many experts had thought impossible and illuminates the majesty and mystery of the Knysna forest and its secret inhabitants.
