Episode Information

In Trás-os-Montes, the most remote of Portugal’s provinces, lying at the northeastern corner of the country, there lie two relatively small mountains that keep nonetheless a vast and rich natural heritage. Local and prominent writer Miguel Torga nicknamed the region “The Wonderfull Kingdom” due to its wonders of wildlife and natural sceneries. This film tells the story and portrays several of the region’s surprising natural history riches, from forests to geological events, breeding birds of prey, a small butterfly that is an ant deceiver, unique plants to the region and their carnivorous cousins - the Sundew, amazing waterfalls as well as the underwater world of the rivers that create them, and Europe’s unique diving song bird - the Dipper. All in this small area of two mountain ranges, make the Alvão and Marão become “Portugal’s Mountains of Wonder”.
