Episode Information

Karabitsu is a chest used to deliver food every morning to a legendary monk Kukai at the inner sanctuary of Mount Koya. Wood carver Nanbu Hakuun III gathered master craftsmen from various fields of Japanese traditional artistry to produce a new Karabitsu. Taking on the production of karabitsu, which is rooted in 1200 years’ worth of tradition, the craftsmen combine their skills with the goal of creating “a masterpiece that will last 1000 years.”
