Episode Information

Everyone loves the beach! To us it’s one giant playground, but for wildlife it’s so much more. A place to live, to find food and to raise their young. Amongst the fish and chips, sandcastles and donkey rides it’s easy to forget that beaches are vital habitats, home to a myriad of animals. Each has evolved over millions of years to thrive on the shoreline in remarkable ways.

The truth is you never know who might decide to visit the beach. Whether grey seals are duelling for a mate and raising their young, or black bears and tigers are scouring the coastline for a tasty snack, the beach is full of surprises. Just as we have our seaside traditions, countless animals have been using the world’s beaches for millennia. Beaches protect us and provide for us and the animal kingdom. One thing’s for sure – we would be lost without them!
