episode description
The Amazon – mighty river, vast rainforest. The film follows scientists investigating how this ecosystem formed and how it works today, using animations to reveal hidden processes. The river stretches around 6400 km, in places 10 kilometers wide, and holds about 20 percent of the planet’s freshwater. Yet the modern Amazon is only about 5 million years old; evidence suggests it once flowed west. The Andes shaped it – and now deforestation and climate change threaten a tipping point.
