episode description
Autumn is the continuation of Summer in Maremma. Also, it is the season that sees the arrival of the first migratory bird species, especially wood pigeons. Many peregrine falcons are waiting for them, ready for hunting. But the sky is not the only place for hunting. Here the foxes have found a clever method to catch mice among the round bales of fodder and at the mouth of the river, at high tide, a large number of small fish have to try to escape the predators. When Winter arrives, the temperature does not too low much. Maremma seldom has to face frost and snow and so, even this season, this place teems with life, thanks to its mild climate and food availability. Thousands of wild geese and cranes reach this region, and year by year they are more abundant. But Winter also is the season when Maremmana cows give birth, attracting wolves and foxes ready to take advantage of the abundance of such easy prey. And the beaches, finally free of humans, amazingly become playing places for Fallow deers.
