synopsis
This intimate documentary follows Zandile Ndhlovu, South Africa’s pioneering Black free diver, as she reclaims the ocean’s narrative for her community. Rooted in histories where water symbolised fear and exclusion, Zandile embarks on a transformative journey to witness the spectacular Sardine Run. Along the way, she challenges generational beliefs, confronts personal fears, and inspires others to reconnect with the sea. Through voices like her grandmother and a seasoned skipper, the film explores identity, access, and belonging, revealing how one woman’s courage is reshaping perceptions and opening the ocean to those long denied its wonders and possibilities.
