Filthy? Greedy? Lazy? Time to think again. Pigs are highly intelligent, possess acute senses and thrive in almost every habitat on Earth – some two billion pigs now roam the planet. ‘Amazing Pigs’ takes viewers on a surprising, funny and fascinating journey from the steamy jungles of Indonesia to the frozen wastes of Siberia, to reveal the extraordinary secrets behind the success of these much-maligned creatures You’ll never look at pigs the same way again!
Our story begins in paradise – an unlikely setting for a group of pigs. But these pigs are thriving castaways on a remote island in the Bahamas where they’ve taken up swimming! How did they get here? How do they survive? The tale of the swimming pigs in paradise is the tale of all pigs. Because pigs; be they wild, domestic or feral; are born survivors. They have many extraordinary abilities that we humans have exploited. In the process we have unwittingly helped expand their ranges and populations even further!
As the film unfolds, we use a combination of experiments and stories from the wild to reveal the pigs’ marvelous powers. A strong sense of smell is as essential to the wild boar rut as it is to the truffle hunting hogs of France. High levels of intelligence help domestic pigs remember the way through a maze; while the wild warthog is canny enough to see the mutual benefits of a relationship with a mongoose. Throughout the film, we return to our castaways in the Bahamas. Find out how this group of feral pigs has taken so readily to life back in the wild, albeit one of surprising luxury.
