Episode Information

An incredible story in which a superstar flies across the world during a raging pandemic to save a bull elephant from 35 years of suffered incarceration. Meet Kavaan one the world’s most famous Asian elephants and also known as ‘the world’s loneliest elephant’ after his partner died in 2012. Gifted to the people of Pakistan from the Sri Lankan government back in 1985, Kavaan has lived in Islamabad Zoo for the last 35 years. In 2015, a global petition was started to relocate him, as his living quarters were deemed unfit for an elephant. A year later the petition catches the eye of iconic musician Cher, who initiated a campaign to save Kavaan. Fast forward to 2020 and with the campaign a success, Kavaan is being relocated to Cambodia. Follow Cher as she swaps the glamour of Los Angeles for the beauty of Pakistan. Blending archive with newly-shot footage we get to better know Kavaan and learn all about elephants, whilst we see Cher working alongside behavioural experts, technicians, mechanics and pilots for this truly amazing airlift. Kavaan’s final destination will allow him to live his final years in an idyllic and safe countryside surrounded by other elephants. This is a story of hope and dreams and testament to what we can achieve when working together. At a time when so many of us are feeling trapped in our own worlds, Kaavan’s story is a beacon of joy and hope for us all.
