Episode Information

The sloth bear is the weirdest and wildest looking of all bears. His shaggy fur, long, gummy jaws and cavernous mouth see him cut a strange figure across the dry scrub of India. He is famous as Baloo in The Jungle Book, and yet poorly known and rarely seen. This is the remarkable story of one courageous cub, discovering what it takes to survive in the wilderness as he grows from a prince to a king.

Sloth bears are raised by highly-protective mothers who will keep their young by their side throughout adolescence and fiercely repel any creature that could be a threat. Forming a close mother-cub bond, she will teach him the skills he needs to survive on his own. As he leaves his mother he will perfect his craft, tripling in size on his nutrient rich diet of insects and fruit. Our young prince is now a proud king patrolling the Indian bush.
