Some we love, some we hate and some we know almost nothing about – the creepy crawlies of the world are some of the most diverse and wonderful creatures in the animal kingdom. Often misunder-stood, they are the base of the food chain, food for just about everything else. But of course, they too must eat, and just like their larger counterparts there are grazers, scavengers and predators. In these feeding behaviours, creepy crawlies shape and enrich their environments. Even the ones that send shivers down our spine are vital to our own survival. They’re very important for pest control, keeping nuisance species at bay, and they break down organic waste to be recycled. They also pol-linate almost all the plants we need for our own food, so if we lose insects, we’ll have nothing to eat. So, pull up a seat and join us for the bug buffet.
